Getting Started
From zero to your first AI-ready diagram in a few minutes: sign in, create a document, and let the guide walk you through the rest.
DAI Studio is The CAD for AI. You design an AI process, system, or domain as a diagram of semantically typed elements — context, rules, skills, tools, risks, personas, cloud services — and the diagram is a .dai file: BPMN 2.0 XML that any LLM or AI agent reads as high-quality structured context. Better context, better output.
This page covers the first five minutes. Everything here happens in your browser — nothing to install.
1. Sign in
Go to dai.studio and choose Login. There are no passwords: sign in with Microsoft, GitHub, or Google.
2. Pick a username
The first time you sign in, DAI Studio asks you to choose a username. Your username becomes part of your document URLs — dai.studio/your-name/document — and your public profile page. It must be 3–20 characters, use lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens, and cannot start or end with a hyphen. You can change it later via the avatar menu → Set Username.
3. Open the dashboard
After sign-in you land on your dashboard: Recent documents and My Files, plus a New Document card showing how many documents you have left. Every edit you make anywhere in DAI Studio is saved automatically to your account — there is no save button to remember.
New accounts can create three documents for free; more come in packs — see Accounts & Documents.
4. Create your first document
Click New Document. DAI Studio creates a new document in your account and drops you straight into the editor with a blank “Untitled Workflow”.
A five-step Getting Started guide appears over the canvas the first time you open the editor. It walks you through the core ideas in a minute or two:
- The more context you give each step — names, descriptions, rules — the better your AI outputs become.
- Click Types in the bar at the top, then drag a Group onto the canvas; groups keep related steps organised together.
- Click Types again, then drag a Rule into the group; rules set constraints the AI must follow.
- Click the rule, then open the Properties panel (
⌘\) to give it a name and description. - Save your workflow as a
.daifile and paste it into any LLM or AI agent — the richer your diagram, the more precisely the AI can execute it.
Step through the guide with ← / →, or close it with Esc. You can reopen it any time with the ✦ Getting started button on the activity bar at the right edge of the editor.
To make the group in step 2, drag a Task from the left palette and drop other elements onto it — any element becomes a container once it has children. See Your First Diagram.
5. Hand it to a model
Click Copy for AI in the top bar. It copies a link to your document’s live .dai file; paste it into any AI tool that can fetch URLs and the model reads your diagram — always the latest saved version. For tools that can’t fetch links, Document → Export → Copy XML copies the file itself.
